Introduction
The Statistician I, will be part of the Biostatistics department at AHRI and will assist with statistical analysis of data from research projects at AHRI.

Specification
The Statistician I will contribute to preparing statistical reports, study protocols, and scientific manuscripts. The incumbent will be primarily based at the Somkhele site but may be expected to make occasional visits to Durban to assist the AHRI investigators based there.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
1.Master’s degree in Statistics

Minimum Experience
1.Two years’ experience in the role of an applied medical statistician
2.One year of experience analysing health information from demographic surveillance systems and/or routine data collection systems
3.Experience of advanced quantitative data analysis
4.Experience of contributing to peer-reviewed publications
5.Some experience with data management of longitudinal studies would be an advantage.

Knowledge and Abilities Required
1.Computer skills
oCompetency with statistical software packages (e.g. R, Stata or SAS)
oCompetency with MS Office software packages
oWorking knowledge of an electronic data capture (EDC) package (e.g. REDCap, ODK, OpenClinica, etc.) and some understanding of relational databases would be an advantage
2.Understanding of epidemiology
3.Underpinning knowledge of cohort studies and a range of advanced statistical techniques.
