The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) is one of South Africa’s largest independent, interdisciplinary research institutes. AHRI is looking for a Social Science Co-ordinator to join a dynamic Social Science programme and contribute expertise as well as to be responsible for generating evidence for continuous programme improvement. Through the quality management function, the candidate will strengthen existing systems to ensure uniform programme quality and investigators’ satisfaction as well as drive quality improvement processes. To achieve this the candidate will manage the department’s Evaluation and Quality Assurance and assist investigators of research studies that employ qualitative and/or ethnographic research methods in ensuring that Social Science Research Assistants (SSRAs) have the requisite skills to conduct the fieldwork and assessing whether the work is of acceptable quality.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A master’s degree in social sciences or equivalent research experience.

Minimum Experience
1. 5 years’ research experience gained in a relevant work setting or research training environment
2. Experience and knowledge of ethnographic and qualitative methods.
3. Experience in managing and conducting research fieldwork.
4. Experience in community engagement.
5. Self-directed independent research experience.

1. Demonstrable ability to deliver research outcomes on time.
2. Demonstrable ability to use initiative and judgement to plan and progress work.
3. Flexibility to manage in an environment of multiple and changing priorities.
4. Ability to set and implement organisational guidelines for employees

1. Qualifications, knowledge of and experience in teaching adults.
